Problem with saving images from web - XP

When I try to save pictures from a web page (.jpg) the save as type gives me the option of .bmp only. Before it was .jpg and .bmp. What can be the problem? How can I fix this?

Try clearign out your internet cache..

In internet explorer, -->Tools -->Internet Options then click on "Delete files"

close explorer perhaps reboot the computer and try again.
