I'm an Indian and very fond of music. I usually visit sites such as etc.. Whenever I try playing any music I dont hear any sound. I've to open my Volume control to adjust the sound under wave balance option. After playing one song the settings again return to normal(i mean to say no sound). I have to adjust the sound for each and every song I play.

Can anyone tell me what is the reason and how to solve it??
Thankx in advance

Does it only happen in Realplayer? In other words, if you were to listen to a music CD with Winamp or with the Windows standard 'CD player', does it start out muted as well?

If it only happens in Realplayer, then uninstalling/reinstalling it should solve your problem. If it happens across the board in other apps, then it is a Windows system setting problem. In that case, I would uninstall/reinstall the drivers for the soundcard.

It does not start out as muted. I dont see any check-mark beside mute. Instead I've to move the "Wave Balance/SW Synth Balance" and "Volume" slider to hear the sound. This I've to do it for every song I play. I dont find any problem with any of the other music players. Moreover As far as I know I cannot select anyother player to play the song other than Realplayer. I use Windows 98. The real player which I'm using right now is recently downloaded from the net after I found the same kind of problem with the latest version of Realplayer.

Any suggestions, Welcome!!

So this "WAVE slider" goes back to it's lowest setting each time you play a new RM file, but doesn't occur in other music players (please test with a music CD if you haven't done so already)??

It's definitely a strange problem. Try uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling. Other than that, I can only suggest making sure you have the latest drivers installed for your soundcard.

Here's a link you can use to download RealPlayer 8 Basic:

Thankx for ur interest in my issue. I'll try installing RP8 and also update my sound card drivers. In case I find any problems, I'll get back to u.

Yeah, I'm all out of ideas if the above doesn't help. The important thing is that you completely remove Realplayer (directories, registry entries, shortcuts, etc) before you reinstall it.
