Hi all,
A friend of mine's computer was running slow and I advised him to upgrade his RAM. The computer had a single 256MB stick of RAM, and in the SYSTEM tab of Windows XP it was only reporting 196MB. We decided on 2GB as RAM, so I took the existing stick of RAM out to try and ascertain what type I'd need to order.
The sticker on the side of the RAM said the following:
I had a trawl around Google and found this page:
From reading it I deduced that I needed a 240pin stick of DDR2 PC2-4200 RAM. So I purchased this from Amazon:
When the product arrived I was suprised that it seemed about half the height of the original stick of RAM. I took the existing RAM out and fitted the new stick and then powered up the computer. It made a beeping noise that went on and off like a siren and it wouldn't start up. I tried putting it in the second RAM slot with the same result.
I then tried putting the old RAM in the first slot and the new in the second. It started up, but only recognised the original stick of RAM and not the new one.
I'd be grateful for any advice.
Many thanks,
Chris
TIA
