When I try to connect to the src.mdb database through excel at work, everything is fine. When I copy the excel file and .mdb file to my home computer I can't connect to the database. If I try to open the .mdb file in access directly I get an error saying "You don't have the proper access to the object c:\projects\src.mdb". I only get this message when I type in the correct password. If the password is wrong I get password denied. Someone who might know what the problem is out there...???

How are you connecting to Access through Excel, and what do you need out of Access

Never Think Impossible

I2207,
is there a module in the db that is validating the pw you type in against what you entered when logging into your domain?
regards,
longhair

Thanks.

Maybe I don't know. I'm not the one who has made the database and the one who's programmed it is on vacation, and I'm not able to contact him befoure he comes back in about 3 weeks. I'm absolutely sure I have the right password. I'm logged into a domain at work if that's what you mean...???

I2007,
what i mean is:
as part of a security measure there may be a module that is validating your typed password with your network credentials. when at work everything is fine because you were validated by the network. at home you are not validated by your work network.

longhair

Is there a workaround for this???

I2007,
can you look at the code while you are logged into the db at work?
regards,
longhair

Not for a week, sorry.

I2007,
if you had access to the code to confirm this you could comment it out. if you rule out this possibilty then you could search for other reasons it may be happening.
i'm not sure what else to chack for.

longhair

i2007,

I'm no Access guru but did search the Help file on passwords. Here is a snippet (Similar to what Longhair is saying):
Security Account Passwords
When user-level security has been defined for a workgroup (workgroup: A group of users in a multiuser environment who share data and the same workgroup information file.), you can use a security account password. A security account password helps prevent unauthorized users from logging on using another user's name.

If your db file is set up this way then you would not be recognized as part of the workgroup on your home pc.
