Problem with Office and opening files

Hi

I'm having a problem with Microsoft Office. So far I'm having the same problem with Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Publisher.

I cant open any files. When I try the program opens and an error box appears saying;
"The file *file name* is not avalible"
e.g. "The file Letter to Dan is not avaliable"
I've tried reinstalling but doesn't work. I never used to have this problem before the start of this summer when I didn't use my computer on the internet.

Also, I don't know if this relates to the same proble, but when I then close Word after not being able to open a file it says;
"The file Normal already exists. Do you want to replace the exsisting file?"

I usually just click 'No' but the Save As window appears already with the Word Template folder open and a file in it named 'Normal'. I usually just click cancel and exit again and then this message appears!;
"Changes have been made that affect the global template, Normal. Do you want to save those changeS?" I usually click No, and it finally Exits.

Anyone know the problem and how to solve it?! I really need MS Office for my College word which starts in September. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried a complete uninstall from the CD?

Then shut down/restart, disable antivirus and reinstall...

I haven't got the CD. Though I have uninstalled by going Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and I get the same problem once I reinstall.

If no CD then how are you re-installing...through a network?

Does it have an uninstall option through the custom setup?

I never loaded office from a download...but I am curious that when you attempt an install from the setup, that you don't get an option screen that prompts you with "Install", "Repair", and "Uninstall" options.

Yeh I do. I've uninstalled, repaired, everything. Still no good.

I'm just wondering, if I did a system restore to when I didn't have this problem about 1/2 months ago, would all the photos and music I've put on my hard drive be deleted?

Just repaired another time. And for some reason, it now works. :S

Lol. Thanks for your help anyway.

I have came across the exact same problem with a collegues computer. I couldn't get the repair to work though. It kept saying it was unable to find the right setup file even though I had re-installed, then repaired using the same CD.

I had put it down to an Office virus due to the amount of rubbish (spyware annd viruses) he had accrued due to surfing the net with a broken anti-virus and firewall application.

How many times did you try the repair??
