Hi: I have a network with SBS 4.5 (with Exchange 5.5) and Windows Me workstations. Everything work fine. But now I installed a new Workstation with Windows XP Home edition and the Outlook 2000 show this error message:

The POP3 server name you specified cannot be found.
The Internet mail settings are the same in the other machines. Only in this workstation don't work.

Any idea??

Thank you.

Do you have a DNS (to tell the workstations that pop3.me.com is 192.168.10.1)?

If not you will have to create a LMHOSTS file in your <win root>\system32 folder with the IP address and pop3 names in it

eg

use Notepad to create a file called LMHOSTS (with no extension), in the files put (using your mail servers IP Address and name)

192.168.1.1 pop3.me.com

and save the file into your SYSTEM32 folder. New Zealand, a great place to visit.

Hi,
I get the message
[POP3 server name you specified cannot be found]
during a dial-up connection after I hit the send/receive button. It's a stand alone PC with XP Home edition and Outlook 2000.
I got a laptop with Win2000 and the same settings for the dial-up and it does not give me the error message...
Any ideas?
