I have a problem here. I mounted the floppy drive using "mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /floppy" and the first time it's ok. But I forgot and mount it for the second time and this time it give input/output errors. And the floppy drive doesn't work anymore. Any advice?

Rgds,
Adeline

Hmm - can you umount it?

Does it still give you problems after a reboot?

Mike
michael.j.lacey@ntlworld.com
<a href= Cargill's Corporate Web Site
Please -- Don't send me email questions without posting them in Tek-Tips as well. Hi,
It's still give the same result after I reboot the system. I don't know what is going wrong. Pls advice.

Thks.

Sorry Adeline, don't really know. Because no one else was answering I was just talking you through the obvious things.

What version of Unix and what hardware are you using?

Do you have software support for it? (a helpline number you can ring)

Mike
michael.j.lacey@ntlworld.com
<a href= Cargill's Corporate Web Site
Please -- Don't send me email questions without posting them in Tek-Tips as well. Hmm. Hardware problem? If you are running Linux or BSD in a dual boot setup, does the floppy drive work OK with another OS? As I recall, Linux won't let you mount to an already mounted device and tells you that the device is already mounted. Another way to test for hardware failure would be to try to boot from the floppy.
Octalman

Hi,
I solved the problem already. Previously I mount the floppy drive without a floppy disk inside it. That's why it returns input/output error. Mike, Octalman, Thks for your guidens.

Rgds,
Adeline

LOL!

Good for you Adeline.

One of these days I *will* learn (but probably not any day soon) to ask the obvious questions.

And by the way - welcome to Tek-Tips Adeline - see you again soon I hope.

Mike
michael.j.lacey@ntlworld.com
<a href= Cargill's Corporate Web Site
Please -- Don't send me email questions without posting them in Tek-Tips as well. Can I claim partial credit for "No diskette in drive" being a hardware error? ;)
Octalman

Hmmmmmmm - No. I think Adeline fixed it herself really <g>
Mike
michael.j.lacey@ntlworld.com
<a href= Cargill's Corporate Web Site
Please -- Don't send me email questions without posting them in Tek-Tips as well.
