Problem with Mapped Network Drives and XP Pro

I have strange problem occuring on my network with mapped drives to member servers and XP Pro clients.

Here is my setup:
2003 DC with AD in 2003 mode, forest in 2003 mode, with DHCP and DNS
The clients obtain drive mappings through logon scripts that utilize net use.

Two 2003 and three 2000 member servers.

I have turned off the autodisconnect feature on all member servers.

The 2000 client machines work fine, no problems with mapped drives.

The problem only occurs on the XP Pro boxes. When the user first logs in they can access all the mapped drives. After about 20 or 30 min is when the problem starts.

The drives do not show as being disconnected (i.e No Red X). If the user attempts to access the mapped drive the system hangs for a second or two then a message displays indicating that the user is already connected to the share?

This problem occurs when the user attempts to connect to mapped drives on either the 2003 and 2000 member servers.

Any help or ideas on how to remedy this situation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

I think you have a problem with your logon script. By any chance you force the user to logon to a drive using the script and in the same time using AD like .... I don't know ... Home Directory or something like that?
Because this message appears when you try to connect to a mapped drive using 2 methods (in your case the script is one of them and the second one could be a connection policy in AD).

Cheers,
Cris

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the info. I will check out that. I know enough to be dangerous when it comes to AD and Policies, but your suggestion seems reasonable.

Thanks again

Mike
