I have recently installed the latest client software on my windows 98 computers. I know have the problem that users cannot save via mapped network drives even though they have rights to the resource the drive is mapped to. The problem wasn't around until the client software was upgraded and if I down grade them to the previous version the problem disappears. I am currently in the process of downgrading all the clients again. I was wondering if anyone else had come across this problem and if they had managed to find a solution.

ANy help (or simply an explanation) would be greatly appreciated.

I assume you are talking about Novell's own client as opposed to Windows if so what is the version number. Is the problem when saving from an application? Can you copy files through explorer ok When you think you have nowhere else to go - Improvise, Adapt, Overcome.

It turned out that the problem only raised its head in Word 97. Other Office applications were fine. Reinstalling Word made no effect. Downgrading the client worked for a few days and then this deteriorated into having the same problem (strange but true!) I eventually renamed the directory that held all the home directories and touch wood this seems to have cured the problem. There was an _ in the name and I removed it. Don't really understand why it would cause a problem specifically with Word or the rather random "working not working" effect on the clients but guess thats the fun of IT!
