Problem with incoming faxes

Our phone system is setup to use 3digit extensions internally. On our 016/TRR board we have a number of fax lines. Recently, one of them stopped working. After a lot of research (I'm not a phone guy), I found that the 3digit extension associated rings the line and tries to fax. Also if you fax "out", it works fine and has the proper fax number. But if you try to call this fax line from the outside (7 digit dial), it rings off into limbo land because the fax never rings. So somehow the 7digit number incoming has seperated from the outgoing.

I've tried and searched here and I can't figure this out. Any suggestions?

When you outdial from this extension (fax) you get the correct caller id information? Can you dial internally to the 3 digit number associated with the fax and hit the fax machine? Is the fax set to auto answer (very common that the feature gets changed on the machine)...

Correct on both questions. The fax answers as a fax if you dial the extension, just not if you dial the full number.

And now... I have managed to disable outbound dialing for the company ;\ I'm on a roll....

Ok, breathe... Did you look at your lines/trunks programming and see your outbound lines pooled in group 70 ?

Also known as the dial 9 group.

I don't know how to view it. I can modify it, but with the winspm I'm using there is no view option

Bottom line - you are not receiving fax calls. So, what do you have for incoming lines? Do you have analog copper trunks? Analog DID lines? A T1 or PRI? That is the starting place.

Since when you dial the fax number from outside, it rings with no answer, I would guess that it is a copper dial tone. Perhaps it is dead coming from the phone company?

If it were a DID or coming in on a PRI as DNIS, and became unprogrammed somehow, it would route to the Operator, or return a busy signal or recording.

So, go into WinSPM and do a "print" of the Fax extension. You may find that it has a specific line assigned to it with immediate ring. If so, then you can test that specific line for dial tone and incoming ring.

It seems to be a T1/PRI system. You can fax out and it shows the proper fax line. There is also an extension associated which rings the fax properly like a fax. But direct dial rings off somewhere unknown. Also if you direct dial, while it is ringing, you can pick up the fax and fax out as if they were two differen't lines.

I did an inventory of my boards and found the fax board with the extension listed but nothing about the phone number that is supposed to tie to it. How do I do a print of the fax extension?

in the "Standard SPM" go to system-start-more-print-more-ext info then enter the number and go

If you can't be good, be good at it!

Ok, I printed out the info as well as the extensions of working fax lines. I find that the working ones have an associated Group Calling Member # and the non-working one does not.

Would this Group Calling Member # be something like the "Group" for faxes?

This is the PRI info:
