I have a Gainward FX5900 Ultra 256MB video card and on the POST screen i get 4 white thin lines goin horizontally on the screen and after the POST screen these 4 white thin lines turn into 4 red thick lines. What is this? Can it be fixed?

Thnx

Sorry not 4 horizontal lines. It actually has 5 white vertical lines at the POST screen and after that it turns into several thicker red lines. In windows and at the loading screen there a several broken vertical lines on the screen.

Help plz

Thats not a good sign.

You might try a firmware upgrade, if available for your card.

Check that the fan spins freely and the heatsink is clean, although the damage appears to have been done.

There is a slim possibility of power supply issues, so try a differant PSU and or, the card in a differant machine.

Is your vid chip running at factory specifications or have you overclocked its frequency ?

Check the frequency and make sure it is running at normal specs, then reboot to see if the issues remain.

Pascal.

Didnot get nay firmware upgrade but tried it in 2 other machines and it does the same thing on one of them.
The card is running at factory specification.

Now its gives the lines on the machine that it worked on. Could it be bad video memory causin this problem?

I'm afraid so, it looks to be corrupted, probably memory but unfortunately there is little you can do.
I would investigate the possibility of warranty, some cards have 2, 3 or even lifetime cover.

You acquired this card recently? Send it back for a swap. The same symptom on three different machines is definitely not a good sign.

Have you tried a different monitor?

sorry it took so long for a respnse. i have been told thats it is the memory which has gone bad. i have had the card for a while so i'm gonna have to buy a new one :(.

thnx for the help
