Problem with Dockers in PP10

I have Corel PP10 upgraded from PP4 installed on two computers both running Windows 98. On one computer it works fine but on the other I have a problem with dockers. When I add the first one it is fine but when I try to add a second the whole machine locks up and I have to press 'reset' in order to restart. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program several times but get the same result. So far I have not come across any other sequence of keystrokes that produces the same problam

One other thing is that on one computer the icon by the side of the file shows the PP camera lens logo and on the other it shows a minature thumbnail of the photograph.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know replying to your own post is a bit sad but I seem to have solved my own problem.

I have reduced to half the Hardware acceleration in System>Properties>Performance>Graphics and it seems to have solved the problem. I don't yet know if this will affect any other programs.

Does anyone know if there is any tweaking that I can do to Corel PP which will allow me to restore hardware acceleartion to full without causing the problem to return.

I am still curious as to why, in the file menu, I get the PP icons on one computer and tiny thumbnails on the other.

that is an issue of video drivers (the hardware acceleration), Colly, not Corel. Have you upgraded your drivers recently?

Thanks for your reply Javabear. I had a power surge on my old computer and most of the innards had to be replaced and Windows 98 reloadad. It is since I reinstalled Corel that I had the problem.

This is obviously the reason but do I need to leave the hardware acceleration at half (Corel works fine at this setting) or is there anything I can do to compensate for it and restore it to full.

Reloading Win98 has nothing to do with the question I asked I'll ask again. Have you upgraded your video drivers? I.e., have you gone to the manufacturer's website and grabbed the newest version for Win98?

Yeah, I wouldn't presume the repair people would update a lot of the software items. On one hand you'd think they'd want to get everything updated, but on the other they're probably worried about liability of other problems arising from the updates. You might want to check for OS updates, printer driver updates, etc... granted, 98 is considered a dead OS by manufacturers so you may not find something you might consider "current."

Yes, agreed. I have already updated everything available from Windows Update. Having done this I should have thought of updating from the manufacurer's web site as well.

Unfortunatly, the device drivers supplied by MS are not always the ones you should use, unless you can't find them anywhere else, always use the specific drivers from the manufacturer.
