While I'm getting the hang of 2008, I've setup three servers for testing. I have a new SBS 2008 install with DNS and DHCP running. I'm having trouble with the DNS resolution from two other servers. One is running Windows 2008 Server R2 and the other is running Storage Server 2008. The servers are using the SBS for DNS. Web browsing is fine and DNS seems to work for the most part. The problem is that the servers cannot resolve any of the built in CNAMEs from the SBS server (connect, Sites, CompanyWeb, etc.). I have an XP workstation that is having no trouble with those records.

That's a weird problem. You are pointing to the SBS IP address as the primary DNS on your other two servers right?

To double check this, open a command prompt and type in nslookup. Verify that the IP address of the SBS server appears. Next type connect and press enter. Hopefully it will reply with the same IP address as the SBS server. If not then try typing connect.domain.ext. i.e. connect.contoso.local

I assume your other servers are joined to the domain--can you clarify if this is so?

The problem was that the servers didn't have a domain suffix specified (domain.local). Setting that resolved the problem. The XP workstation was working because it was using DHCP.
