we have dns server in our company,,,, for a virus scan purpose I disconnected the network from the server (unpluged the cables)
after finishing virus scanning I reconnect the server again but we face a problem no one of our network clients can access the shared folders on the server ( it show an error message that permissions required).
from the server I can access any computer on the network
could you help me plz
thanx in advance

Its because the clients have all timed out the connection to the server, lost authentication with the server. The clients would need to re-auth with the server again. I dont understand for any reason why you would want to disconnect the server while a virus scan in running ?

Faithless may be correct. (Oh, by the way Faithless, here's a star.) Are you running dhcp? If so, take a client and do ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew and see what happens. Another good point Faithless had was "Why disconnect the network?" Just because you are running a virus scan doesn't mean you should disonnect. Good luck.

hello all
thx for reply
I disconnect the network becuase of virus infection and I have used a virus removal to scan the network for this virus.(blackmal removal from symantec)
I thought that the virus may spread to scaned computer from infected one if I kept the network connected.

Faith:
The clients would need to re-auth with the server again
could you tell me how to do that ?

Glen thx I 'll try release renew ip

regards

Logout and login again is the best way. Also you might have do what Glen said to to release and renew the IP, but that reallly depends on what your lease time was set to.

hello again

I did what you told me to do but still get that message
I did also shutdown all network computers and the server and turned off the switch ,,,, then I turned on the switch --> the server(till completly startup) ----> I start the client computer hoping that will reset everything but still got that message
checking out the log viewer (oh my god alot of errors there)
so I gaveup and report that to my management.

thx for your help again

What are you running on the server and on the clients?
Are the clients connecting to the shared folders through mapped drives? If so they may not be configured to reconnect at logon or they were not configured to remember the administrator password when they do reconnect. A lot of assumptions here on my part but need more info to be more specific.
