Hi,

I was having disk space issues and had found a 633MB file that could be deleted. I deleted the file, but the disk space used remained the same (output from df -lk .). Deleting this file should have resulted in a 7% drop in disk space used.

Any ideas why this file would be deleted, but disk space would not be freed up?

OS is Sun Solaris 8.

Perhaps something was writing to the file and still has it 'open' even if it has been deleted. Do you get any output from fuser <filename>. If so, look up the pid using ps -ef | grep pid and kill it. That should release the space.

Thanks for the replies so far...

I ran fuser on the file and got "file not found"
(see below)

=========================================================
ORA-92060.[D1]. fuser /app/oracle/product/8.1.6.3.0/network/log/interfaces.log
/app/oracle/product/8.1.6.3.0/network/log/interfaces.log: fuser: No such file or directory
=========================================================

I then did touch on the file and ran fuser again ...

=========================================================
ORA-92060.[D1]. touch /app/oracle/product/8.1.6.3.0/network/log/interfaces.log
ORA-92060.[D1]. fuser /app/oracle/product/8.1.6.3.0/network/log/interfaces.log
/app/oracle/product/8.1.6.3.0/network/log/interfaces.log:
=========================================================

Can anyone think of anything else to check... thanks.
