Have this on my hands.

I tried to transfer a 13Gb AVI file to another computer connected to the network. The PC I am on is running Win2K and the receiving PC is on Win98.

Its understandable that it'll take a while to transfer something that big but this one takes very much longer than expected (I waited for 2 hours an it is still transferring!) Also, as the file progress is reachin 2 seconds, it suddenly climbs to an absurd value next (eg 112341Seconds or somehing like that).

Has anyone experienced this before? Is there anything that you did to correct it?

PS . The win2k is on NTFS. Dont know if this is a factor contributing to the problem. Information is free....dont hog it!

Tha maximum size file on a FAT32 partition is 4GB I believe, so your 13GB file is going to be a problem.

Actully a Fat32 partion can be 32Gb anything above you get problems though. It may be a stupid question but is your fat32 drive have more then 16gb of free space. If so when you transfered the files (copy/paist?) did you make sure it was using the UNC. In other words did you browse over network neighborhood to the computer your accessing then select the file your copying.

The problem may be your network card setting. Make sure that both network card's set at 100mbbps/Full Duplex. Some Hub only support Half-Duplex. Do some test...

To set the speed/duplex in Windows 2000:
- Open "Network and Dial-Up Connection"
- Open the properties of the network card.
- Click on "configure" and select "Advanced"
- The advanced setting change from a network card to another. You're suppose to see something like "Line Speed/Duplex".

To set the speed/duplex in Windows 9x.
- Open The Network Control Panel
- Open the properties of the network card and go to advanced setting.

I hope that may help! Sorry for my english, better in french! ;)
