Problem with C3550 (config-if)#ip address

Hi!
I'm trying to specify ip addresses for ports, but I'm just getting following error:
"IP addresses may not be configured on L2 links."

It's running L2/3 image so it should support this feature.
It must be something simple, but right now I have no idea.

Maybe you have to enable ip routing?

You need to use this command under the interface "no switchport"

that will make it a L3 interface only..

FYI

It might be "no switch port" its some command in that nature, I can't remember exactly..

no switchport worked.
