Hello,
I have a web site and last week I was doing some modif, update and the server of the hosting company banned me because it thought I was doing something wrong.
I call them they unbanned me and since I can not access my site from my computer. I can acces it from my work. I use a linksys BEFVP41 and zonealarm up to date,w2k.
So I unplugged my router and connected directly to the cable modem and got a new ip address. At this time I was able to connect. So I put the router back in place, rebooted and then my old ip came back and again impossible to access my site.
My question is how can I keep the new ip or is there a way to reset the router because it seems to have a memory.
Thank you.
Alain

Tour93,

I'm guessing that your cable ISP uses the MAC address it retrieves from the device connected to the cable modem to determine the IP address to assign you. When your router is connected, you always get one IP, but when your computer's NIC is connected to the cable modem, you get a different IP.

If you want your router to be assigned the IP that your computer gets when connected directly, you need to use a feature of the router called "MAC Clone." This feature allows your router to present any MAC address you enter to your cable provider. So if you tell your router to use the MAC address of your PC, I'll bet you'll get your 'new' IP addresss and be back in business at your website.

The "MAC Clone" feature is available from the 'Advanced' tab of your router web interface. Assuming you connect to your router from the PC that has the MAC address you want your router to use, you can just click the option for cloning the current PCs MAC and save your settings. If not, execute an "ipconfig /all" command from the Command Propmt on the PC that has the MAC address you want to use; write down the MAC Address, then enter it manually in the MAC Clone interface of your router.

Hope this helps!

thanks it's working now i changed the mac.
