Ok. I would greatly appreciate some help on this, because I can't figure out why this is happening.

What is happening is this ...

I create a simply flash animation making a name go from one side of the stage to the other. I make the name go from small to very large, and go from 0% ALPHA to 100% ALPHA (mid way through) then to 0% ALPHA when it is at it's largest size. This creates an effect where the name comes from nothing ... then shows up in full color and intensity, then fades back out to nothing.

PROBLEM:

It works in Flash fine. But, when I save it and create an .swf file, and view the file in IE ... it "SOMETIMES" doesn't work. It will mostly always work fine when I do a very simple ALPHA change, but when I try and make it go from small to large, AND change the ALPHA ... that seems to "sometimes" cause the problem.

It is a little mind boggling .. and I can't figure out why it will display in Flash .. yet not display properly when I publish it and then try to view it.

I have tried this on several machines and seem to get the same result everytime.

So, my question is simply ...

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?? Why would it sometimes work and sometimes not??

Have you ever run into this ... and how did you correct it? Any thoughts???????

PS: This is in Flash 5 .. and running on a PC.

Thanks,
Gary

I set the FLASH setting to 5.

Would this be correct?

If so, do you have any other suggestions?

hi Gary

Don't think I've experienced this problem before, could you post a link to the zipped-fla?

The only source I can think of is that you've maybe changed the published name of it but the HTML is embedding the original 'bad' swf. But, you'd know if that were true.

If the name that you are moving across the screen is not broken apart and is using device fonts (either by using one of the _font names or having the device fonts box checked or publishing with device fonts), then the alpha fade will not work. You would either need to break the letters apart and make it an image or change your font to a specified font.

Hope this helps

David

Someone told me it might have to do with the fact that my first text instance might have been set to a symbol, but my last one wasn't. I will be checking this out.

Thanks for your input and help. I sincerely appreciated it.

but that wouldn't explain why it 'SOMETIMES' happened.

I agree.

But I am trying to get a copy of the fla file. Once I do, I'll post it back here and let you see what might have been done incorrectly.

Thanks for your input,
Gary
