Problem with access to files originally on Novell

I am having a problem opening Office 97 files that were originally defined from Office templates on a Novell 3.12 server. These files have been copied to a Windows NT 4.0 server. Now, if I attempt to open these files from Windows NT, I am prompted for the password to the Novell server for some reason and I then wait a very long time for the files to open. The volume on the Novell server is not mounted anymore. I tried copying the files from the NT server to my hard drive and then while disconnected from the network, I do NOT get the password message. BUT, once I connect to the network, I am prompted for the Novell password even if I open the file from the hard drive. Any insight out there would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like the file's still have rights\trustee's which refer back to the Netware server. It was my understanding that the rights are lost when coping to a NT server, but maybe there is still something their. What did you use to copy the files ie XCOPY, NCOPY,Windows or was it a migrate to NT ?.
Do the Netware servers have any link\gateway like (NWGW)to the NT server or Vise Versa?.
Maybe even a enterprize wide ZEN works or Similar.

There must be a link in the documents to the original template on the Novell server. Are they mail-merge type documents with links to a mster document. Are there any paths in macros?

Turns out that within the Client Service for Netware, the preferred server was NOT entered. Once the correct server was entered in here and I was logged in successfully, the password prompt no longer came up for the templates. (In my company, we still need to access the Novell server even though MOST files have been copied to an NT Server.) The template files are no longer on the Novell server but because they were originally created there, I think it still wants to link back to the Novell server. There are many macros in the template, so probably there is a link in there somewhere. I'll try digging in the macros because eventually we will not be on the Novell server at all and then I will have a problem when I am no longer logging in with the Client Service for Netware.
