Problem when booting NT

After i enter the username and password the mouse on my machine freezes causing the machine to freeze.I cannot get access to the Desktop, but can access the Desktop in VGA Mode.How can i regain my Desktop under normal boot-up procedure.Would appreciate any help.

have you tried hitting the space bar and getting the last good start up?

Yes thanks , i have tried using the spacebar , but problem still arises.I have also removed network card,tried different graphics card but to no avail.Thank you for your help but this is a strange one or should i say frustrating.

I did have this problem once before and it was due to a dodgy mouse manufacturer. Changed the mouse and all was fine. It is probably not this but you never know....

Afraid it did mot work---installing a new mouse.I started the machine in safe mode and every time i executed a program, it took about 10 mins t oact on the command, something weird in this machine.Any more help?Please!!!

eoink - one thing you didn't say - did this machine use to work ok, and was anything changed on machine between then and problem (hardware/software) or had there been any other problem (eg, virus) which was 'fixed'.

wolluf-------The machine worked perfectly and t omy knowledge nothing new has been added or nothing old taken out.No virus as far as i am aware of but i have thought of that one and how can i go about fixing or even checking for one.I'm sorry but i'm relatively new to this and am learning.

If you can still boot in VGA mode, you could install virus checker (if there isn't one - there's a good free one here
