Problem using letters to trim an outline in Coreldraw 12

I am using coreldraw 12 to create a t-shirt design. I have created a team name using artistic text and then put an outline around it. I then converted the outline to an object. I used the letters to trim the outline, because I just want the outline of the letters and not the letters themselves. I am using the color of the t-shirt for the letter color. Now, the outline does not look like it has been trimmed, but when you look at the wireframe view it shows that it has been. The whole outline is filled even the part that was trimmed. How can I do this and have the outline show that it is trimmed? Thanks.

Can you look in the Object Manager to see that you only have the one object your looking for? What I mean was, I recreated your steps to make the same thing and when I choose Convert outline to object, it then made two objects in the Object manager, one for the Text and one for the Outline. I just deleted the text and was left with what I think your looking for, Outlined text with no fill. Check to make sure you didnt combine any objects also.

Thanks, I never thought about that for the outline. That will work for what I want, but I still have a similar problem with trimming shapes in text. Example: I have created the team name then converted it to curves. Now I am trying to trim several holes in the letters (like swiss cheese). I still run into the same problem with the hole there, but it is not visible in the enhanced view.

Ok, what the Fill of the letters and the circles?

The letters are filled blue with no outline and the circles are filled with black and no outline. The easiest way to recreate it is to type a letter. Make it artistic text then convert it too curves. Make it large enough to have a circle cut out of part of it. Now make a small circle with no outline. Put the circle on part of the letter, then trim the circle out of the letter. This should put a hole in the letter. Once this is done it looks like the letter has no hole in it, but if you look at wireframe view you can see the hole.

After you go to Arrange, Shaping, then Trim, are you then deleting the circles?

Yes. The only object left is the letters.

So when I do this it looks fine on this end. But your saying that if the circle crosses the edge of like the letter B, that in wireframe view the whole circle is still shown and not the part that is just cut out?

I'm sorry, I guess I didn't clarify. This is a big logo, each letter is about 5 inches tall and 3 inches wide. The circles are little about 3/8 inch diameter. So when I said make the letter big, I meant big and thick. So if you did the letter B, make the left side of the letter about 1 inch wide so you can fit a 3/8 inch circle inside the letter. Make sure the entire circle is in the filled part of the letter. If part of the circle is outside the filled part of the letter it will trim like it is supposed to. I only have the problem when the circle is inside the filled letter. I am sorry this is confusing and I really appreciate you trying to help me.

Yep I understood that your letters were wide. Weird I just tried it again at home and I think I have the same problem, the circle is still there and not punched out (trimmed) the outer one will trim out. This was in Corel 13 here at home, I think I did it correctly in 12 at work. I will try and look at it this weekend when I go up there.

Ok, I think I just figured it all out. Create your text, dont convert the Text to Curves. Draw your circles inside the text, then choose the text and the circles, then shaping then trim. Move the text and you should have your holes cut out of the text. Worked here on Corel 13.
