hi,we've just upgraded our IPoffice system.

We now have IPoffice 2.1.14
Phone Manager 2.1.7 (a couple on 2.1.8 to fix problems)
(IPoffice Manager 4.1.15)

The biggest problem we have so far, is that our receptionist tends to lose calls when asked by someone out of the office to call someone, call them back and put the two calls together.

Effectively, making two seperate outgoing calls, and trying to transfer them together. This will generally be between two mobiles, though I wouldn't have thought that would be the problem?

Does anyone know if this is a fault, or do we just need help in the correct method of using the software? (having the "transfer calls together icon at both ends of the row, and not always working even if it is highlighted just tends to confuse the issue even more.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

One option is to use call conferencing

Your receptionist calls all parties, puts then on hold and when all parties (2+) are on hold, she simply keys *47 to connect all parties together, including her.

She can then announce to all parties that they are now online and she simply hangs up to remove herself from the conference

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately we've tried that, but because both of the calls are to external numbers, when the receptionist leaves the conference call, the other calls both get cut off.

(We actually tried again with the short code you gave, rather than using Phone Manager, but it had the same effect.)

Anyway, I spoke to our supplier yesterday, who had been checking with their tech-support (someone between them and Avaya I believe) and this is apparently a "feature". It's something to do with the calls leaving lines open on the system, which you can't close using Phone Manager, as it no longer shows up there. It was something you could do with the previous system we had but this ability has been removed to prevent possible fraud (?). It also related to analog lines being unable to disconnect from the call you made to them, leaving you paying for an open ended call and preventing them from using the phone.

I have to admit it sounds a little far fetched, but it could be true I guess?

No, they should implement this without discussion or trying to protect us. There are enough systems which can do this without a problem (ex. INDeX) so I see no excuse why an IPO can't do it.

Why not simply transfer the first caller to the second caller?

Call arrives, receptionist hits transfer 9+number then transfer again.

I have tested this and it works fine with analog.

Peter

PS If analog trunks ensure "allow forwarding" and "Disconnect Clear" are ticked (and that the CO is sending a Reliable Disconnect signal).

You could also transfer them to a short code that connects to meet me conferencing.

are you usning analog lines?

if so trunk to trunt transfers should not be allowed unless a reliable disconect singal is present
there is an option in the line config to enable transfers if required
ISDN lines do not have this problem & t-t transfers should work in the normal way

Note, INDeX will alow t-t transfers on ISDN, but will not alow T-T transfers on alog lines ever.
