Problem to uninstall applications

Please help how to solve problem to uninstall don't wanted applications.This fenomenon started after problem created from Zone Alarm
block of my PC.I was unable to uninstall this application in the normal manner through Ad-Remove and I was forced to clean Zone Lab files and registry entries manualy.
Now when attempting to uninstal some application receiving in WISE UNINSTALL window on the Desktop message:
-Could not open INSTAL.LOG. file-
PC is checked against viruses, troyans and other kinds of pests- all is clean.
Probably some of the files are coruppted.
Please for advice what I can do

Search on Google about this problem ,but nothing valuable.
Noticed that can not install or better sey reinstall Ad-Aware SE and Zone Alarm.
Otrher applications can be uninstalled normaly.
Try to repear XP SP-2 from bootable CD but for unknown reasons my Product key is rejected - very strange.
Still waiting for some suggestions from our
MVPs
Please help, now I am without my favorite apps, Ad-Aware and Zone Alarm- having only Windows firewall and AvastAV for protection.

what does it mean specifically when you say that you cannot reinstall? What are the messages/errors that you are getting? Did you back up the registry before you deleted entried? No, neither do I. Need more detailed information about what is happening that prevents you from loading your favourite apps.

This dialog box indicates that there is a problem in opening the log specified on the command line used to call the uninstaller. The message is erroneous in that it specifically says "Could not open Install.log file" when this may not be the installation log file name you specified on the command line for uninstallation.


The command line used for uninstallation from the Add/Remove Programs icon in Control Panel is stored in the registry at:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\<Appname>

Make sure the value UnistallString is pointing to the correct location.

Thanks for your answers.To be clear I repeat once again that my problem is how to find a vay to reinstal previous apps- in my case Zone Alarm and Ad Aware Pro.
Re Zone Alarm when attempting to reinstall previous version receiving on the beguining of installation liabeld message:
-Validitation failed for:
C:\Windows\System32\Vsmonapi.dll
( this for ZA ver._51_011)
When attempting to install newest version ZA 55_94_011 , after installation starts, on the middle of thr process, it stops and message appear:
Zone Alarm-1023 English has encountered a problem and needs to close.We are sorry for the inconvinience.
Regarding Ad Aware Pro on the very beguining of Setup when checking for previous version and attempting to uninstall it, liabeled message appear:
Could not open INSTALL.Log.file
Any how this apps is installed but with no possibiliti of update from oficial server as before.
I check in the Registry for Value HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Uninstall\<Appname>
There is no such entry
I have varios "Appname" entries in the Registry - but this one not egzist.

Finaly prior to delete entries for Zone Alarm and Ad Aware I back up the Registry of course.
Seems that this inconvinience is a problem that MS should solve in the future.If I must reinstall my OS XP SP-2 every time when incountering similar problem then......

<Appname> = a name of an Application, maybe that is the confusion?

Your statement seems a bit wrong as you should have a hundred or so entries all referring to every program, windows update or MSIexec Installer used on your machine. Each of these entries will have a Value for the UninstallString which is the location path you should check to see it is correct.


If you are comfortable in the Registry you could use RegEdit or another registry cleaner and search and remove all entries for "ZoneAlarm", and remove all ZoneAlarm files manually from Windows.

Checked through all adviced ,but no solutions.
At the end by restoring Registry using one 30 days old beckup, solved problem with Ad Aware.
Remaining problem with Zone Labs.I found emntry in HKCU/Run for Zone Labs, but whwn attempting to delete , the entry remain intact, refuses deletion.
Normaly it should alow to be deleted .but in my case no..This string concerns to TrueVector I beleive.

Check in Services for something like TrueVector Service and if it is there Stop it running and then Disable it. You have to right-click on the service name to access the Properties.

Check the Permissions on the Registry Key you are trying to remove.

I check the Permissions and they seems O.K.What is interesting when try to delete some entry for not needed apps , the key seems deleted , but after return on the same place - deleted value ( complete entry ) is again there.
I don't know what to do - how to delete unwanted Registry entry throughly, without his automatic restore.

Post the Registry Key (and Value) you are trying to delete.
Some keys are present in both HKLM and HKCU hives. Do you have any type registry protection or security programs installed?

Those registry keys of yours seem to have messed up how this web page displays.

The ones with "ShellNoRoam\Bags" will be replaced automatically by Windows as applications are used, I think they are to do with various folder settings for programs.

The other key you should be able to delete just the Value referring to ZoneAlarm (and not the whole key) assuming your access permissions are correct and it should remain deleted.

Resetting Security Permissions is not an every day occurrence but I think you just get a DOS Window with a numeric counter as permissions on files, registry, services are reset. When it completes hopefully the job is done.

Zone Labs Client entry creates all this problems.Unfortunatelly this one is as a "Fenix", after delet appears immediatelly on it's place, or even when using command regedit - remains intact.

1. first thing I'd do is start->run-> SFC /scannow and make sure all my System files are repaired..
2. Since all other things have failed. delete every thing you can in \programs\ZA using the DOS command...
3. reboot... ZA should not be able to load & ask for reinstall..
4. Your problem is CORRUPT Zone Alarm... which will SCREW up lots of other things... there are many FW's out there that work FINE with XP all versions... one FREE one is Sygate..& so far it has not corrupted XP even in the Pre Whistler Beta days...

Thanks for advice.System files repaired, all ZA deleted-no joy.
Try to act through msconfig -start up - uncheck ZA and after ZA installed Tini Firewall ( even this one creates the problems besides the fact that was uninstalled correctly).
Can't beleive that there is no way how to delete the values for those two nasties from the Registry.
They appear again and again.....

Have a look at these keys too and also at the Vsdatant.sys and VsMon.exe files that are referred to in them. If you get rid of the keys and the files it should knock out the True Vector part of Zone Alarm.

This entry I can delete but when return to his place after while this string is there again.I don't know how but there si some connection between Zone Labs and this one who remain after uninstall of Tini Firewall ( I was trying to replace Zone Alarm with this apps )
