Problem Starting Some Services 1

I am running SQL Server 2000 SP3 on a Win 2000 Server SP2 box and I can not get the SQLServerAgent to start. I have looked at all sorts of setting including logons and security settings. I have also check the services to see which ones are running and what account they are logged on as. The ones that are NOT started, I tried to start and got the error messages (the information is as follows):

MSSQL$PROVIDERSYNERGY STARTED LocalSystem

MSSQLSERVER LocalSystem
--> Could not start the MSSQLSERVER service on Local Computer. The service did not return an error. This could be an internal Windows error or an internal service error.

SQLAgent$PROVIDERSYNERGY LocalSystem
--> Could not start the SQLAgent$PROVIDERSYNERGY service on Local Computer. The service did not return an error. This could be an internal Windows error or an internal service error.

SQLSERVERAGENT LocalSystem
--> Could not start the SQLServerAgent service on Local Computer. Error 1068: The depending service or group failed to start.

ALSO...
The MSSQL$PROVIDERSYNERGY group works fine. I am able to open and create/modify database built in that group.

The problem is that the SQLAgent used to work, and after upgrading to SP3 the Agent would no longer start (uninstalling SP3 is not an option).

If anyone has any ideas I'd sure appreciate them!!!

I'd uninstall and SQL Server and reinstall it and SP3. I had similiar problems and finally had to break down and do that today.

Would windows server 2000 service pack cause this problem.

I say that because I have three other SQL SERVER which are OK but are running under WINDOWS 2000 SERVER with Service pack 2 where as the SQL SERVER with problems is running under WINDOWS 2000 Server without any service pack.
