I recently got a new computer with Norton 2005 installed. Using Outlook I am having a number of messages that fail to send, stating error 554 and that the "Recipient address rejected: Relay access denied" I know the addresses to be good and after talking with my ISP/mail server, they believe it may have to do with Norton. In checking Norton I find that outgoing mail is being scanned and I can't figure out how to turn this "option" off. Any help would be appreciated.

I've got a funny feeling it's nothing to do with Norton, but more to do with the way Outlook has been configured.
Try this

Outlook 2003:
Tools > Email Accounts > View or change.... > Next > Select your profile > click Change > click More Settings > Outgoing Server tab > Clcik "Log on using" and put your ISP mail login details in there.

Off the top of my head, it's something like
Tools > Options > Accounts >
actually...... anyone for Outlook 2000? can;'t remember where you change the authentication options for the smtp server.

Let me know how you get on, and if anyone can refreshmy memory of OLK2000, cheers!

Thanks for the advice. I tried it, but I'm still getting errors. It's really got me stumped, but thanks just the same.

I had a problem in the last few days following a Norton update.
It lasted for 24 hours or so then seemed to fix itself (after a bit of "encouragement").

The problems seemed to be something to do with the Firewall Component not working properly.

Try doing a Live Update and see if that cures the problem.
Failing that,if you run Norotn Personal Firewall, remove the rules for Outlook (and any other mail clients you run) from Firewall and restart Outlook. This should force Norton to automatically set up the rules again.
