I'm out of options, any printer experts out there that can help?

I get the following error trying to print under Win 98.

"There was an error writing to LPT1: for the Printer (Brother HL-1250 Series):

The Printer is not ready. Make sure it is tured on and online.

To continue printing click retry....."

I have run all the printer diagnostics and reset it to its factory defaults. I have also tried a different USB cable. Does not work. I have also tried reinstalling the drivers - that did not help either.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Are the USB ports enable in the bios? Do you see them in device manager? Also in device manager on the USB tree do you see USB printing support??
Also check if the port in the printer properties is set to print to the USB and not LPT1

If you're connecting with a USB cable, you should not have the printer set to use LPT1...Set the port to use USBPRN01. If you don't see that option listed in your printer properties, unplug the USB cable, shut the power to the printer off, and reboot your computer. Then plug in the USB and turn the power back on to the printer. It should be automatically detected.
