Hello all, newbie here. Here I go.

I don't know how long this may have been going on but last night I noticed it for the first time; when I tried to open a JPG from Photoshop I got an error message that said it couldn't be opened because it wasn't a TIF. Hmmm. When I opened it from Windows Explorer, no problemo.

I don't usually get error messages while using PS so I'm stumped. I haven't done anything differently. I did install PK Sharpener a short time ago by Pixel Genius but I can't imagine that causing the problem (but i know plugins do weird things sometime). I also installed PK Sharpener on another computer (very similar to the computer i'm having the problem with)and have had no problems.

I'm using WinXPSP1, PSCS.

Does someone have a clue? [upsidedown]

You can try deleting your preferences file.

Start PS then immediately hit CTRL + Alt + Shift.
If PS loads you will need to exit out and try again.

You most likely will have to try this a few times as you only have a few seconds to hit the Ctrl Alt Shift keys.

Answer the question to delete the preferences file YES

thanks for the tip. I'll try it tonight.

ciao
