Hi all, strange problem this one...not exactly urgent but annoying:

When I attempt to open a jpg file from a CD, I get the error
'Could not complete the request because it's not the right type of document'
The thumbnail displays fine. Opening using 'Open as: JPG' works fine...and if I copy the file to the Hard Drive, it opens fine as well, it just won't open directly from the CD.

The CD was burnt on a Mac, and I'm using CS2 on a PC, but I've never had this kind of problem before.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanx.

p.s. I've tried deleting my preferences at startup...no change.

I get the same things sometimes - in reverse - CDs made by photographers on PC and opening on my mac. Only happens sometimes so I guess it has to do with the way the thing was prepared.

I just drag everything to a folder on the hard drive and all open.

I have no problem open a jpg, bmp, tif, gif on a PC created CD with photoshop 7.

years ago we had to do some conversion to make MAC media and files readable on a pc but I thought that all dissappeared when everyone went to ISO-9000 standards.

99% of the time there's no problem, but sometimes people do something silly and the recipient can't get things to open easily.

A lot of people have no idea what HELP files are and never read them.

Yea but...I can't figure how simply dropping the file to the PC all of a sudden makes it readable unless an extension was changed from .??? to .jpg

Well thanks for the replies guys...I guess it will remain a mystery though! I too cannot fathom what changes simply by copying to the HDD...I even thought it may be a 'read-only' problem but that also makes no difference.
Oh well, thanks again!
