Hello,
I am unable to open my .jpeg files, even though I have photo programs loaded. They were able to be opened earlier in the week, but now they are not. I get an error "This file does not have an program associated with this action.." And when i right click on the file to "open-as" that does not show up in the options....
any suggestions?

A slick little program I use to open, resize etc those files is named Irfanview. Free download. It may be that the .jpeg extension is messing you up, maybe should be .jpg. Open the C drive, select Tools menu, Folder Options, File types and see if .jpeg is listed anywhere. I don't remember how to add a new entry in windows 98. Irfanview would be good to have anyway.

You should have jpg, jpe and jpeg in your folder options, file types list. Just scroll down to were they are an tell it to open with your photo editing software. If for some reason they are not listed, just click on new and make them manually.

101011110101010010,

When I right click, I am not given the chance to "open with" any program, which normally happens....any other suggestions?

Did you click on Open with? I renamed a .jpg to .jpeg and it didn't do anything when I slid over open with until I clicked on it.

Have you tried to change the extension .jpeg to .jpg?

billy71,
Yes, i have tried to change the files to .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg and .bmp....still nothing...

Uhh, when you double-click the file after you get the message "[blue]This file does not have an program associated...[/blue]", isn't there an option to select a program from the list?

There should be. Select the "Paint" application if it's listed, or click browse to C:\Windows\mspaint.exe

Of course, you could select any other application such as MS Photo Editor if you have it installed. Make sure you select the option to "always use" the selected program. After doing that, every time you double-click JPEG files with the same extension, they should open automatically.

Open My computer, go to view (I belave for win98) or maybe tools on the top menus. Then you should see an option that says folder options. Select this and then go to file types. This will list all the file types your computer knows of and what programs it opens it with. Find .jpg and .jpeg and change the open with to the program you want the files to open in. If for some reason your computer don't list these files you can create them.

click to select any jpeg file. then when the desired file is selected, press shift and while holding down the shift key, right-click on it and select "open with..."

hope this helps. peace! [peace]

The normal program to open .jpeg files in Win 98, is "Kodak Viewer".

when you're in the folder with the jpegs in it, hold down your shift key and then right-click on a jpeg file. The "Open With" option should appear in your context menu. From that point you should be able to reset your file association for that file type ...

Good luck!
Chris
