i am building a new computer and nothing is showing up on my monitor when i boot up for the first time to test

the following are installed
power supply
cpu with heatsink and fan
1 stick of memory
graphics card

following connections
computer to monitor
power supply to outlet
monitor to outlet

i have tried putting the memory stick into the other slot, but to no avail. any suggestions? i think there is a problem with the agp slot or the graphics card itself. could there be any other problems? thanks

i just tried reseating the parts
i started my computer again and noticed that there was no beeping sound like how normal computers start. is this a problem with the motherboard?

Commonly the motherboard will issue one short beep through the system speaker at POST. Check these out:-

(1) Is CPU fan running, can you hear HDD spinning up, etc??

(2) Did you use a thin smear of heatsink compound between CPU and heatsink mating surfaces?

(3) Did you fit the heatsink with the "step" nearest the zif socket pivot?

(4) Have you tried clearing CMOS?

(5) Have you tried starting up with no drives or ribbon cables attached to the motherboard?

(6) Attach the POWER LED to the appropriate motherboard headers. Does it light up?

(7) Try starting up motherboard without the video card in place. This would ordinarily produce a series of error beeps.

(8) Ditto Nbr 7 without memory module (different beep sequence).

If none of the above produce beeps then it could be the CPU which is faulty.
