no i hav diff tape drives for diff machines.
is it possible that it can be a problem becoz of new tape ,

how does the new tape comes ...i mean its fully rewinded ??
coz i can see some link between transperent media and nontransperent media(brown ) on tape drive when i opened its
mouth shutter.

i hav tried with the three diff tapes of same kind.
it gives same problem.

160m tapes are for 7GB tape drives.
If your tape drive is 5GB 8mm tape drive
you have to cover corner hall on side oppozit
off protertor.

Hi Nandakumar !

I also feel the same , u r using a tape which is not supported by the tapedrive , check the capacity of the tapedrive and what tapecartridges it supports.
Hope this helps,

hi
thanks for ur suggetions.
it was due to diffrent capacity tapes.
112m is 5 gb which is supported by my tape drives and 160m is 7 gb which is not supported.
when i covered the notch it recognised the tape.

but i think i wont be able to utilize the full 7gb capacity of my tape....is it???

thanks once again

nan -- tape density is going to be different, and you might get prematurely dirty tape heads and unreliable backups, if it works at all. Use the recommended tapes I suggest.
