Hi - I have a client who is using outlook 2000 to retrieve email from multiple email accounts from a Pop3 email server. All of the sudden, they are unable to receive email. It appears like the mail is incomming, but seems to hang.

We switched them over to Outlook Express and set up the email accounts and are not experiencing this problem.

The client wants to use Outlook 2000 as it has the additional features like the calendar, filtering, etc.

Does anyone know about performance and problems using Outlook 2000 to access email from a pop3 server?

Thanks, Beth

Is there an AV program on the machine scanning the incoming mail? Sometimes AV programs can make changes to the profile settings that can cause this to happen.

Hi - We checked the incomming and outgoing mail servers and they have not been changed by the AV software. Actually, this client has a firewall. That was checked as well.

Across the board for almost all the end-users Outlook 2000 is starting to fail. Does this make any sense? -Beth

Just a question -- do you know what service pack they are running on Outlook 2000?

I believe SP3 causes Outlook2000 to behave more like Outlook 2002... with a bunch of kinks and quirks that were determined to be default by update.

You might go back thru and check all of the Internet Options settings as well as all of the settings within Outlook itself - account and options.

Check the HOSTS file and see if there are any entries in there that should be cleared out.

That doesn't make sense on why Outlook clients would be failing in this manner.

Hi - We have moved 6 end users over to Outlook Express from Outlook 2000 & 2003 and they are now sucessfully sending and receiving emails.

We checked with the host and there is no record of issues. I set up an email client with one of the end users names in Outlook Express and was able to send and receive.

It has to be something with Outlook 2000/2002, but cannot find anything on their knowledge base specifically about this.

Any more ideas? Thanks, Beth
