I am running Outlook Express 5.5 and Bellsouth is my internet provider. I am running Norton Internet Utilities 2002 and I have it configured to scan my incoming and outgoing email. The problem is Norton will not change my pop3 or smtp to scan my mail. I have set it manually and it still will not scan. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program twice, both times I ran the live updates with no problems. This is one of the error messages I am receiving:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'buhdda64', Server: 'mail.bellsouth.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

This is the error when Norton is set to checked to scan. Mail comes through just fine after I uncheck the scan box. Any help is appreciated. I never had this problem before. I tried a 15 day trial of Norton Antispam 2004. Could this have caused the problem? I am not a tech, just a regular computer user...I probably do not belong on this forum. Thank you, Jennifer

I have the similar problem, and I abandoned...

Before, I installed Norton Systems Work 2003 with only NAV installed. The software worked fine for scanning emails. Then I installed AntiSpam 2004 and found that it could not scan emails any more, and also made my computer very slowly in startup and shutdown. I angrily uninstall the AntiSpam, but NAV still can't scan emails...

I have tried reinstalling Norton Systems Work 2003, installing Norton Systems Work 2004 and running liveupdate too, but still can't work. I had enabled my firewall to allow CCAPP.exe with full rights too...

At last, I switch to use NOD32!!! The software is very great!!!

Thank you for the link and the advice you both gave. I read the Norton support article and it doesn't apply to me. My email works fine configured as per my ISP. It is when the antivirus is set to scan, then that is when the errors start. I think it has something to do with the Norton antispam 2004 I installed. I did remove the complete program. Is it possible that it left entries in my registry? I only use dial-up, so everytime I uninstall and reinstall my NIS it takes FOREVER to re-download all of the over 13MB of updates :( Suppose I turn off my email scanner, will I stll be protected from email viruses? I am extremely good and quite a fanatic about keeping my security up to date. Thank you all, you have been kind in this forum. Have a great day. Madison, Alabama
