When I´m trying to install the SP4 on my server, I got an error message that says that the arcsetup.exe file is being used and the Windows will not continue the SP4 installation.

Any ideas?!?!

Thanx

Marco

Already tried this, arcsetup.exe is never running and after reboot, the problem continues.

Hello,
Shutdown all unnessary process and programs then rerun the SP4 Setup, check to make sure your disk space on the partition of install is adequate, you are the admin for the server and if that fails copy the setup to servers Hard Disk and rerun it again, outside of this you may have correpted SP4 files too.

Thanx man, but none of this solved my problem. Very weird guys. The main problem, and that's why I'm trying to install sp4 is that I cannot install MSDE on my machine, whem the evaluation bar is almost in "100%", it just go back and don't give me any error message at all.

Hello, please go to and search upon "arcsetup.exe"; you will find that this issue may be caused by an old bad install of a patch on localized Win2k machines. Perhaps by reapplying adhoc security patches for your current service pack, you may go through SP4 afterwards. Otherwise, I would advise you to reinstall Win 2K ...

Me again !

My colleague here had exactly the same error, but we were not able to troubleshoot her issue using advises from Microsoft :-(
Her pc has a lot of softwares installed, it's a french Win2K pro... I will reinstall Win 2K for her because she gets a lot of virus alerts.

Cheerio

On the microsoft.com webpage I didn't find anything about the problem. And since this pc is a server, I'm trying to avoid the reinstallation.

How you solved the prob?
Would be of interest for others too perhaps.

Regards,
Peter
