PROBLEM INSTALLING ILLUSTRATOR 10

I have Windows XP Pro and I am having problems installing Illustrator 10. I get a Component transfer error stating the following - Component: Windows Sys Files, File Group: msvcrt, File: <svMSVCRT>\, Error: the filename, directory name, or volume label syntax in incorrect.
Can someone help. Illustrator 9 installs without a problem and I have installed Illustrator 10 previously but had to uninstall & now I am getting this problem.

Have you got Photoshop installed? If so, uninstall Photoshop, install Illustrator, and then reinstall Photoshop.

I had Photoshop 6 and 7 installed, I uninstalled both but was still not able to install Illustrator 10. I got the same error. I am able to install illustrator 9 though. Any more suggestions would be welcome.

I had the same problem too. I use Windows 2000 and had previously deinstalled a demo version of illustrator 10.
Here is how i solved the problem:
I located the folder &quot;InstallShieldInformation&quot;. This folder contains several subfolders with cryptic names in brackets, like this:{41244-7382....34}
Because i didn´t know which of those folders was for illustrator i renamed them all instead of deleting them. That way you can change their name back to the original after installation. You might as well move the folders to somewhere else.
After doing this the installation of illustrator 10 worked perfectly alright.

Thought I'd better post my solution for Windows XP, thanx to wahzzzzup for pointing me in the right direction...
1. Goto C:\Program Files
2. In the top menu... Tools/Folder Options
3. Click the View tab and 'Show hidden files and folders'
4. Now back to your 'Programs Folder' u should b able to c a folder called 'InstallShield Installation Information'
5. Inside that folder u should c a folder called '{412033BC-44CF-48D9-B813-4B835101F4D3}', find it and trash it, move it, rename it or whateva tickles your fancy
6. Woohoo your ready to install Illustrator 10

how about once illustrator is installed it doesn't open - just the box come up but nothing further.......

I had to reinstall ai 8 and 9 and now whenever i open version 9 i get two adobe pop ups saying 'cannot complete due to unknown error [CmCI]' - i click okay to them both and then it opens - but does anyone know why this might be and if it is having any effect on the program.??
