Problem installing a wireless Plantronic headset on a 1140 IP Phone

I bought a wireless Plantronic headset to install on a 1140 IP phone. I can get the receiver to have a dial tone, but whenever I press on the headset button on the phone, instead of having that light go on, it's the speaker light that goes on and activates.
I thought it might be something in the phone's configuration, but could not find anything on the BCM system.
Any idea what I am doing wrong
