Has anything changed on your system recently? I assume it was OK.

Try creating a new user and seeing what happens when you su

check /etc/passwd /etc/group and /etc/shadow and possibly compare with a good system.

try running 'pwck' password check util. This will check your password and group files for errors.

hi ,

I tried creating a new user and tried to log into that user and do a su to another user i get the same error????

Any more suggestions?

Hello Krishna,

Have you tried trunix's pwck (or grpck)? Does the passwd/group/shadow look OK?

Any old processesor or shells in the system, that could be killed off?

There's /etc/default/su (worth a look) and /var/adm/sulog

If all else fails, there's always a reboot.

Good Weekend
