Hi All,
I try to use Crystal Report (CR) v8, in my PC running Windows 2000 Adv Server, to create report to access MSSQL 7, my PC and the MSSQL 7 Server is connected in the same network.
And the result is :
- in CR Designer, running well
- After I run Report Distribution Export, and run the
setup in the same PC (from where I develope), then run
the report from the start menu, it runs well.
- Then I run setup for the same distribution files in
windows 98, I got this error :
'Could Not open the file named :
C:\windows\system\MSVCRT.DLL. It is in use by another
application', I ignore it.
When I run the report from Windows 98 start menu, the
report only shows me the saved data, if I refresh, the
report goes BLANK !!!
What is wrong here ?????

Thanks very much for any help,
Krist.

Be sure you sign on as administrator when installing.

John,
When installing Crystal Report or the Distribution of report into win98 ??
FYI, I develope in win 200o AE and want to distribute the report as stand alone compiled report into win 98.

Thanks,
Krist

I am having the same problem. I am running the reports distribution expert (add-on for 8.5) on an NT machine and the resulting .exe runs fine on on it but when I go to the client workstation I also get a .dll error during the setup, ignore it and it finishes the setup. However, when I crank it up the .exe on the client, the only way I can get any data is by selecting the "used saved data" option. There are date parameters in the report so I need the refresh option to work but when I select it and hit print, nothing happens (except an hourglass for a few seconds) - no print window or anything. So do I log in as administrator (as suggested above) on the client or on the machine I'm distributing from or both?

Thanks!

I recompiled and redistributed the report with no saved data. I logged into the client machine as administrator. It still did not work. The specific message I get when the setup starts is "Could not write to c:\winnt\system32\ctl3d32.dll because it is use by another application. Close all other running applications"

I think that I may have had the same problem. What I did was create the report (also with date and other parameters) then before I compiled it , I exited Crystal reopened and then in the DESIGN mode Compiled and Distributed. I then ran the setup.exe on each workstation, making sure that they each had the same system DSN. This only had to be done once to each workstation, Then I copied the three file(exe, crf, rpt) to a common Network folder , accessed by a short cut to the exe. file. So far it seems to work, with current
data not saved data.

An additional step you may want to take (with the instructions WELLDUH provided) is to change the properties on the .crf file to 'read only'. You may run into print engine errors if you don't do this (but you may not - just advising in case you do get print engine errors when the user attempts to run the application).

Mary: You're responding to a thread from 9/23/2002, I doubt that anyone is paying attention to it now.
