I have a database in EXCEL of aprox 11,000 rows. There are 7 columns of info. I save this to a CSV and attempt to import into ACT 6.0 via the import utility. I map properly. The problem is of the 11,000 items only 2300 or so move over. I thought that I might be trying to bring over too many so I tried a CSV file with 2000 item and 400 would come over???

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Hello yomongo,
Were all of these 11,000 rows unique? ACT! considers duplicates on Company Name, Contact Name and Phone Number and merges them into one Contact record.

Can you post the CSV field names?

Regards,
Michael

Company is never unique.

ID#,CompanyName,FirstName,LastName,Address,City,State,County,Zip

Do I need to place a field name on each columns to s import them. I am not doing that

Hello yomongo,
"Company is never unique"?
Does this mean that all 11,000 rows are from the same company?

Yes, you data in Excel should have column names. I would suggest the following:

CompanyName ==> Company
FirstName ==> First Name
LastName ==> Surname
Address ==> Address 1
The rest can stay the same. By changing your column names to the ones I suggest ACT! should automatically map the fields for you.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Michael

I think I know what's wrong now but I need to know how to fix it. The Company is always the same becuase it is a Restaurant Chain. Many time the First and Last Name are the same because owner operators may own several locations. How would you keep ACT from filtering out records that only differ by address or purhaps ID number.

SOLVED..........I needed to turn off check duplicates. I am now getting every record downloaded into ACT. Thanks for the help that was offered.
