Problem getting to Windows Update site 1

Hello All,

I'me having trouble connecting to

http://www.windowsupdate.com/

It resolves and then is redirected to

http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/thanks.aspx?ln=en&&thankspage=5

but the server doesn't respond.

I am using IE 8 v8.0.6001.18702

The page ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm is returned instead

I am not having problems connecting to any other web page - including this one, as you can see.

I've run full virus scans (Kapersky, AVG and the s/w supplied by Virgin Media) and nothing's been picked up.

I'd be very grateful for any help you can offer.

0. See if you have a proxy set in IE

1. Check your hosts file for anything strange in there.

2. Install and run MBAM to see if any malware is on your machine.

3. Reboot and try again.

4. If still no joy, try resetting your IP stack with this and then reboot.

Have you tried cleaning out your Temporary Internet Files folder, Cookies, etc?

Are you launching Windows Update via the shortcut link on the Start Menu or by typing the URL in IE?

Are you using Windows Updates or Microsoft Updates on your machine?

Or just go to update.microsoft.com does it work?

Go to tools windows update and see if it works that way.

I like ccleaner cause it works great for me, and free.

But ya, sounds like someting in your temp folder that is messing with you. Which ccleaner fixes that problem.

to add to the thread, have you tried the direct link?

and what Goom suggested, should also be looked at, as there are malwares out there that redirect IE...

Thanks for reporting back and thanks for the star. Hurray - I get to be right for ONCE today. Everything else has been wrong answers all day.
