Hi ,

I have a rs6000 machine with AIX 5.3. Try to install netbackup 6.0 on it and everytime it will just stuck on the step <<Authenticating the NetBackup database >> . There is no error or any message indicating any problem but just holding to there forever.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this problem? I tried to search google and this forum and so far no solution. Please help, thanks!

here is the last screen on my putty while trying to install:

.....

x scripts/wdata/fin_code.dat, 186 bytes, 1 tape blocks
x scripts/wdata/fin_data.dat, 1974 bytes, 4 tape blocks
x scripts/wdata/product.dat, 668 bytes, 2 tape blocks
x scripts/wdata/sales_o.dat, 39441 bytes, 78 tape blocks
x scripts/wdata/sales_oi.dat, 53753 bytes, 105 tape blocks

I'll give you a solution for a star...deal?

Your going to need to patch the C++ runtime library on the AIX server.

If you have AIX 5.3 ML4, make sure you have at least version 8.0.0.8 of the xlC.aix50.rte package. AIX 5.3 APAR IY92889 patch is required when installing NetBackup on a system using the xlC.aix50.rte C++ runtime version 8.0.0.0 or later. This patch can be found on web site and by entering, IY92889 in the search field.

Previous versions (8.0.0.4, for sure...) produced immediate core dumps in multiple NetBackup binaries.

lslpp -L |grep -i xlc
Check the version of the C++ runtime libraries.

Also, make sure you have the hostname and IP's in the /etc/hosts file. If the /etc/resolve.conf file exists, you will also need to make sure the /etc/netsvc.conf file exists with the lookup order (files, dns).
