I have PM 7.0, Win XP, Distiller 5
Please help! I'm trying to create a PDF for a book and thought I followed the directions correctly, but I'm still getting errors. It is approx. a 300-page book with many images. I moved it on zip disks from my old computer with Win 98 because it was too large to save there. Then I dragged the separate components into a folder on the hard drive of my XP computer named "WatersEdge." I had to convert my two fonts as they weren't compatible. When I click the Save button to save the PostScript file the box comes up in the screen with the heading of my original file name as follows: Find Pub: C:\MaryAugust25\Marybookpic\Marypics\Titleco. . . I had named the new folder "WatersEdge" and this comes up in the box for the folder, but the file is the first document in the book list "Halftitle.ps." The name of the book is "Water's Edge." So now I see all the parts of the book (13 in all) instead of a postscript file. It has boxes at the lower right: Open, Cancel, Ignore, and Ignore All. Something isn't right. When I click on Open it says, "Book list update error. Publication already in book list with a click box 'Continue.'" When I click on that the former screen with my 13 parts comes back. Also when I open the Acrobat Distiller it says Job Options: ebook. Is that what it is supposed to say? Other options are Press, Print and Screen. I thought it was to go to file. I'm not sure that this all makes sense. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the answers. I went back into the PM file, and the links were still all there. So still don't know why it won't print, but I already have the one we want uploaded to the website of the publisher/printer, unless I have to re-create to get a better quality product.
I don't have a clue about the " Black" problem. I typed directly into the PM document, so I didn't even import from a Word document. If I still need to do something about this can you explain how I go about it.
I did use TIFFs, so I don't know how to determine if they have been flattened or not. I thought I did everything right. Thanks for being there for me and others. Arlene

Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: setdistillerparams; ErrorInfo: CalCMYKProfile U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2

I get a different error message every time I try to create a PDF from Adobe PageMaker it's either " Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: setdistillerparams; ErrorInfo: CalCMYKProfile U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2".

I read that you can create a PDF from almost any computer program but not even from Adobe PageMaker to Adobe Acrobat!

I am using Windows XP, Adobe PM65, Adobe Acrobat 5, I have tried all the setting in preferences, printer styles, and distiller settings, still getting the same " Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: setdistillerparams; ErrorInfo: CalCMYKProfile U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2" message.
I'm trying to create pdf's of pm files for storage.

Firstly, Adobe do not support PM6.5 on WinXP, so there could be clash there which means you're on your own.

However, your error message suggests to me that the USWebCoatedSWOP profile is missing.

If you can't reinstall it, disable it:[ol][li]Choose Start > Programs > Acrobat Distiller to start Distiller.[/li]
[li]In Distiller, select Settings > Edit Adobe PDF Settings.[/li]
[li]Click the Colour tab.[/li]
[li]Change the Colour Management Policies setting to Leave Colour Unchanged.[/li]
[li]Click Save As.[/li]
[li]Name the modified joboption, click Save, and then click OK.[/li]
[li]Repeat steps 2-6 for any additional joboptions that are used to convert files to PDF. [/li]
[li]Select File > Exit.[/li]
[/ol]

Pagemaker please create a patch so we create a PDF out of our PM 6.5 templates?

Because I've changed computers a few times but I used the same PageMaker program and now when I open PageMaker 6.5 it substitues fonts and the template we worked on are distorted. Because I don't know which program came with specific fonts. Now I found out that PageMaker 6.5 will not work with Adobe Acrobat 5 and I can't create a simple PDF so now these newspaper files are useless. From now on I will keep all my font disks and program disks because I will need them.

Let's be real about this - PM6.5 is over 10 years old and is not supported on WinXP.

Having said that, if you wish to open old files on a new system, you need to have all the necessary fonts - they are not embedded in PM, which ever version you use. And PM6.5 has no inherent problems with Distiller 5. My expereince of them, which was a long time ago, was that they worked really well together.

Years ago I wrote a tutorial about setting up PM and Distiller to create PDFs - - but I think it's all been archived now as it's ancient history

Yes, that's the best way.

InDesign is the way forward. Discounted upgrades to ID CS3 from PM6.5/7 are still available at £136 + delivery and VAT or the equivalent in your country. Do it while you still can.
