Has anyone encountered a problem copying files from their network drive down to their local drive?

I connect fine to our VPN server using win98, all my drive connect and my login stuff in authenticated just fine.

I can start win explorer and see all the files I need on my network drive.

But when I highlight the files and try to copy them to my harddrive I get an error "the specifed network resource or device is no longer available". Yet I can go back to the explorer and keep on browsing the files.

any clues?

all my techies are telling me to upgrade to win2k. Which seems like a bogus answer and just supports MicroSoft tactic of "upgrade or else" mentality.

Thanks
Chris

hmm... I would upgrade as well...
but you can try this :
what happens if you
-map a drive from your Win98 client to the server, based on IP address (not on servername)

net use * \\ip_address\sharename

and then try to copy from there.... ---------------------------------------------------------------------
I have not failed, I've just found 10,000 ways that don't work

You must be on NT4. I had the same exact problem. I was never able to resolve it. I was told it was a timing problem. I tried win2k and did not have that problem at all.
I dont think it is a vpn problem, I think it has to do with fragmentation.

to all,

map the drive to the ip address m:\\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\vol5 instead of the name m:\\server1\vol5 did not help at all.

Same problem, I am having another win98 user try the same thing to see if it just me.

I'll keep you all posted if I find a solution, otherwise I'm upgrading to win2k.

Regards
Chris

to all:

Upgrading client to win2k solved all of my VPN issues, apparently win98 doesn't play well witn win2k RAS.

I also had the same problem. I had Win98 clients connecting to a NT4 server fine, but when I upgraded the server to Win2k I would get the same error. We finally just had our external client connecting to the VPN upgrade to WinXP. Everything is great and fast.
