Hi all i have an hp laptop and tried to reinstall(non clean installation). This is not the first time i make non clean installation. Previous times it worked well but this time i have problem completing the installation.

it first copied all files and then it rebooted and at devices installation phase it stops and does not proceed the 33 min time left to complete installation. I used ERD commander 2005 and i saw all my files are there but i can not start my windows normally or proceed with the installation. could any expert show me a way to solve the problem without losing Any data ?Thanks

are you doing an "over the top" or installing to another directory?

Thanks for u reply Auger282. i was doing over the top installation .

i used live cd which is called BartPe . I managed to transfer most of my files to desktop. Now i want to make a partion and install a new xp pro on that partion but the xp pro cd does not give me an option to make new partation. My laptop hd is 19069 mb and 12226 mb is free now and this what i see in blue screen

Code:
The following list shows the existing partions and unpartioned space on this computer .

Use the up and down arrow keys to select an item in ths list.

-to set up windows xp on the selected item , presss Enter
-To create a partion in the unpartioned space . press c.

-to delete the selected partion , press D.

19078 mb disk 0 at ID 0 ON BUS 0 ON ATAPI [MBR]

C: partION1 <local disk>[NTFS] 19069 mb ( 12226 mb is free)
	uNPARTIONED SPACE 8 mb
------------

I tried to make new partion on unpartioned space and it did not allow me it sayed it is served for xp!
I selected the c: partion and and typed c key nothing happend. while c: is selected i pressed on enter it told me that it is not good idea to install another os in the same partion !! do u think if i go a head install a fresh os xp pro on this partion it will erase the other installation of xp ?

could u tell me how to make new partion in the free space without formating or erasing files on current partion? Thanks
