Problem: Citrix ICA Client 6.00.910 mishandles windows in Published Applications

Description: I have an accounting package (Epicor's E7.0B) that has been published since May '00 (and before that Epicor's prior version (4.2) was published with the same system.) I recently upgraded the Citrix system of servers.

The Old system:
2 servers with the following configuration:
Win NT 4.0, TSE, SP6
Citrix MF 1.8, SP2
Load Balancing
Hardware: Quad Xeon II 400MHz, 2GB RAM, RAID 5 with 27GB (fairly nice boxes)

The New System:
Same as old system PLUS:
Feature Release 1,
Client Database Utility
Added a dedicated ICA Browser server (Brand new Dell Desktop class computer: 877MHz, 128MB RAM, Win NT 4.0 TSE, SP6, MF 1.8, FR1, SP2, Client DB Utility) NO Load Balancing because I am serving no apps from this one. It is just a master browser.

During the upgrade I reapplied TSE SP 6, loaded FR1, reloaded SP2 & Client DB Utility on both of the pre-existing servers. I also upgraded the ICA 4.x client to the 6.00.910 client.

MY PROBLEM:
Some clients (not all) have a problem:
(The Short)
Windows get opened that overlap previous windows such that they cannot select all of their parameters to run the reports they need.
(The Long)
They will open the published application, choose a report to generate from a drop-down menu, choose to modify a parameter on this report by clicking on a button which opens a window, from this new window they click on another option to modify the parameter further which opens yet another window, when they are done choosing that parameter, instead of returning to the previous window, they go back to the window they opened from the drop-down menu which overlaps the other window(s) such that you cannot select them to process the report.

I have done MUCH testing since I have implemented this on Saturday. I found out that it is the ICA client. When I load a 4.x client on my system and connect to the published app, it works just fine!

Any ideas on what settings in the new client might be causing the issue or if it is just inherent in the new client?

We are having a similar problem. We are running NT 4.0, TSE, SP6, Citrix MF 1.8, SP2, Feature release 1 with load balancing, on 5 IBM netfinity servers. When we run our application (MIMS - work management software)the active window goes to the background every time we change screens. This only happens in seamless window mode, if we change to full screen or a %of window the application works fine. Seamless looks so much better, but we have not been able to resolve this issue.

What are the client machines, and what are the video cards / drivers? Are the applications built using Java Apps?

I have seen quite a few "nasties" with seamless applications through the 6.00.910 client on Windows ME and 98SE which don't happen on Win2000 or 9x before 98SE.

Most problems come about using 16-bit colour; 24-bit seems more stable.

I have 2 outstanding calls to Citrix on these issues - which may be related to what you are seeing.

I intend to chase this further with Citrix, since I think there are a couple of new client bugs.

The new 910 client stuff up our propriatory software. We use a lot of comms and 910 client give errors along the lines of transmission rate discrepencies on the com ports. Our software needs this. So until we have done more investigations. We are saying NO to 910, bring back 779!
Since we've now got all releases of Win2K TS to worry about, and customers telling us that they don't need Citrix at all for their implementations, we've got our work cut out.
pritch.

Our client machines are about 85% Windows 95, 15% NT 4.0. We have a very wide selection of video cards/drivers with none accounting for over 10%. I am able to reproduce the problem on my machine, it is NT 4.0 with at Trident Video Accelerator 3D adapter. I checked our published apps and they are set to 256 colors. The application we are having problems with is written in Delphi.
