Hello,

First off I'm a AIX bod and have no knowledge of HPUX.

The company I'm working at has a HPUX server (Not backed up) running as a development box. We lost power to the server last week and now appear to havew the following problems.

1) The hostname/basename is unknown.
2) When Booting it fails to load any rc files and reports a syntax error.

Any ideas?

Regards

Mike

Could do with moreinfo - what is the error, what is the hardware etc ...

in the mean time ...

You could try to run fsck on the filesystem, problem may be that you cannot do this if it is mounted, and by default /sbin is within the root filesys.

May need to boot from CD (recovery shell), then you can run fsck on the logical volume.

The hostname is set in the rc scripts on boot. What kind of syntax error are you getting? If you do a who -r, what's your run level?
