In case this looks familiar, I had also posted this in the Server 2003 forum.

I am using Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 on a Windows 2003 Server R2 with SP2.

Let's say I'm trying to add UserA. When I add the user, it brings up the information for UserB. For example, I go into Site Settings, click on Manage Users, I enter domain\userA and check Reader then click Next.

On the next page, it will list the correct email address, correct username but the display name shows UserB.

The strange thing is that UserB is an old user that has been deleted from Active Directory for quite a while.

Any ideas on what might be causing this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

I ran into this once and the following command corrected everything:

stsadm -o adduser -url -userlogin domain\loginID -useremail janedoe@companyname.com -group "SharePoint Group" -username "Jane K. Doe"

Lookup the user info in Outlook to confirm the correct entries, or look it up in Active Directory.
