I've got a new Backup system in it's own VSAN. The Legato Master Server (AIX 5.2) has it's own backup NIC with a 10. address.

I have another unix client configured with hostnamebk interface and when the backup kicks off, I get the above message: Probe job had unrecoverable failure(s) and of course it fails.

Does anyone have a good cheat sheet of how clients should be configured using a private/backup network? And what exactly is this message telling me?

Adjust the setting for the client's "server network interface" and pecify the nic the server (and client) shall use.

Actually, the fix was to include in the ALIASES field all the interfaces and fully qualified domainnames.

hostnamebk
hostnamebk.fully.qualified.domainname
hostname
hostname.fully.qualified.domainname

My understanding of Legato is that when a backup kicks off, it can "probe" using any interface and then that's the interface it uses to perform the backup. TRUE????

I do not know whether this will do the job. It will solve the probe problem but will it choose the correct interface ?

I am getting these errors when trying to run a backup of a client called nwbackup.
NetWorker savegroup: (alert) Unix - Bosnetapp completed, Total 1 client(s), 1 Failed. Please see group completion details for more information.

Any ideas?

Possibilities are

1. Firewall Issue
2. Forward and reverse DNS Lookup check for name resolution
3. Ensure Servers file does have the entry of servers name
4. check for rpcinfo -p host name to check nsrexec running

Mostly it is network related issue.

Hi, I have similar issues - but there seem to be variations depending on how I start the backups.

If I start the entire group containing all the NW cluster members, then two of the virtual cluster servers give me "Probe job had unrecoverable failure(s)". If however I start ONE of the offending cluster servers by its own the error message is:

"SAVE.NLM: RAP error: User nobody on computer tvl-gatcf1.jcu.edu.au is not on tvlcluster_apps1_server's remote access list
SAVE.NLM: Cannot open SAVE.NLM session with ahmed.jcu.edu.au"

I'm trying various scenarios but ultimately always get the same discrepancies??
