Prob with Dreamweaver templates

I am modifying a site which is stored remotely.

I'm having no problem working with the site generally (I've been uploading test pages and they run fine, can download pages onto the local machine etc), but when I try to use a template to design a page I run into problems in that I can't access the templates remotely.

When I go to file->new->Templates I can access local templates and use them fine, but I can't get to the remote templates (they aren't listed). Of course, if I use the locally stored templates then the sites have all the links relative to the template on the local machine.

Any help would be great

Templates are meant to be used locally. The pages generated (or resulting from the template usage) are the ones published. Why would you want them to appear on the remote site?

Ok, I'll rephrase and see if it makes more sense. I'm modifying my companies website, but our website is hosted by someone else.

I have remote access to their server and can upload pages etc. but want to use templates to create new pages (there are templates on the server where the site is hosted). How do I use these templates?

If I place them on my computer all links become relative to the templates location on my computer. So the template contains the code:

<img src="../../image1.jpg">

And if I use the template on the local machine that link becomes:

<img src="file:///C|/My%20Documents/image1.jpb>

And the link stays like that above, even when I upload it to the server (which means the website only displays properly on my computer)

However, if I don't place the template on my computer I can't use it.

Does that make more sense, or is it still nonsense?

Do you 'post' using Dreamweaver? That should update all of the links automatically.

You need to put the templates locally in the same file structure as your remote site then make sure all links are document relative. Or do a find and replace on "file:///C|/My%20Documents" with "../../"

Hi,

I've promised a friend to make a small website for a sportsclub of which he is a member.
Followed a course Dreamweaver 8.
Now I'm looking for a free template to start with.
Was thinking of a header row with title + photo.
In left column a table with editable buttons. On the right an editable region in which I can put photos + anothe table or text. All colours, letter types etc. should be changeable.

Anyone can tell me where to find easy free macromedia templates ?
